Dance Blast

Abergavenny Castle Grounds

Friday 18th & Saturday 19th April  - 5pm

What Inspires you?

Is it amazing people past and present?

Stories from history or tales of fiction?

Maybe you are inspired by the environment around you. Ysbrydoli / Inspire is a site specific dance and circus performance at Abergavenny castle that explores the theme of inspiration.

Brought to you by Dance Blast, a centre for community dance and circus in the heart of Abergavenny, Ysbrydoli will be performed by 55 Dance Blast community members; young people and adults, including the following commissions:-

Acro-Dance duo, ‘Joli Vyann’ have created a piece with Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company inspired by the aviation pioneer Charles Rolls, from Hendre, Monmouth.

Kevin Turner MBE,Co-Artistic Director of ‘Company Chameleon’ has created an inclusive dance piece with both MYDC and MCDC inspired by the castle itself, over the centuries, weathering meteorological storms and storms of battle.

Rhi Matthews, costume maker and designer has worked with MYCC to create Stilt characters inspired by Lady Lllanover, sponsor of Welsh Folk culture and her husband Ben Hall, who is the namesake for ‘Big Ben’.

Further pieces have been created by our company classes supported by their Artistic Directors, Sarah Rogers, Kim Noble and Elle Kate.

Boy’s Blast, Advanced Atomic and Chepstow Youth Danceability will also be performing supported by their tutors; Mitchel Aldridge, Hayley Feehan and Eluned Owens

An Autopsy of a Mother, a Bear and a Fridge
By mover, maker and mother Deborah Light
Dance Blast Centre

Sunday 11th May - 5pm

You are warmly invited to witness the examination of three seemingly unconnected objects.

As Deborah uncovers connective tissue, between mother, bear and fridge, she reveals her own vulnerability, anger, humour and strength. With cold clinical brutality, warm openness and hot feminist rage she exposes both personal experiences and patriarchal systems that place pressure on the female body.

A powerful and intimate dance/theatre experience.

A script (paper or digital) is available in advance on request and at the performance. This script contains visual reference points and details about the music/sound elements contained in the production.

Supported by Chapter, NDCWales, YMa and Taking Flight
